Reese Opera House

The Reese Opera House is a complex renovation of a three story building in Newnan’s Historic Court Square District. The project derives its name from the original use of the building. The structure now houses office space for various tenants. The project consisted of significant improvements including the addition of an elevator, update to all windows to obtain significant energy efficiency gains, and structural reinforcement of original building components. Major improvements were made in emergency egress capabilities and life safety measures. The primary change was the complete removal and replacement of the roof structure and roofing system. The upper floor was limited by a typical ceiling height of less than 7’-6”. KAOD planned the demolition of the existing truss roof system and the installation of a new open web wood joists system that maintained the existing parapet height and gained an average of 6 feet of ceiling space.
